Responsibilities
Physical Therapists provide one on one therapeutic treatment and care to adult, geriatric or pediatric patients in order to promote their health and independence using a comprehensive and patient-specific care plan. Physical therapists also help patients how to manage their pain, regain their range of motion, strength, endurance and improve their quality of life. The job responsibilities of Physical Therapist include, but are not limited to:
- Evaluating and assessing patients and listening to their concerns
- Developing an individualized treatment plans to help patients attain therapeutic goals that will allow patients to perform at maximum potential
- Outlining clear goals for patients and expected outcomes of the treatment plan
- Working with patients to improve their movement and manage their pain
- Helping their patients manage their pain and improve their mobility by using variety of methods, including exercise, stretching maneuvers, hands-on therapy, and equipment to ease patients’ pain and help them increase their mobility
- Establishing treatment plans and treating patients
- Tracking and documenting treatments, responses, and progress
- Re-evaluating and/or redefining therapeutic goals, and modifying the plan of care, if necessary
- Recommending and fitting patients for assistive devices for self-care and ambulation, if necessary
- Providing training for patients, caregivers, families, as well as other health team personnel on using assistive modalities, and appropriate physical therapy procedures
- Maintaining professional knowledge by attending educational workshops or seminars, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, etc.
Physical Therapist Basic Requirements:
- A certificate as a Physical Therapist issued by the State of New York
- Doctorate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years PT work experience
- eligible to obtain the Health workers’ Certificate or Visa Screen
Physical Therapist Required Skills:
- Knowledge of principles, techniques and equipments used in physical therapy
- Knowledge of possible hazards during treatment and necessary remedial measures
- Skills in manual therapy
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction
- Compassion and empathy
- Physical Strength and Stamina
- Ability to lift patients and stand for prolong period of time
- Good interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral, with good attention to detail
- Creative problem solving and strong clinical decision-making skills
- Resourcefulness and ability to manage time effectively
- Reliable, accountable, and respond to every challenge with solutions, rather than excuses
- Ability to thrive in an autonomous setting and meet expectations for scheduling and caseload management.
